Thirsty Gecko Drink Bottles
Thirsty Gecko bottles are made from food grade 304 stainless steel. They are BPA free and free of other toxins and leads so the water you are drinking from remains clean and fresh. By using a Thirsty Gecko drink bottle and refilling it over and over you will not only have clean tasting water but you will also be assisting the environment by reducing the amount of plastic you are using over time.
Let's answer some more questions you may have on why you should choose a Thirsty Gecko drink bottle.................
What is BPA???
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical compound found in many polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. Polycarbonate plastics are used in certain food and drink packaging, drink bottles and linings of cans. Sources such as Scientific American have stated that since the 1930's it has been known that BPA mimics estrogens, binding to the same receptors through the human body as natural female hormones. It has been found that the BPA compound breaks down over time and leach into the liquid or food being stored in the container. This leaching reportedly occurs even faster when the product is heated. Critics of BPA have cited that BPA may cause health concerns relating to childhood development, ADHD, autism, increased childhood and adult obesity and type II diabetes. There are also reported concerns that BPA may affect and stimulate cells relating to prostate and breast cancer.
What's so good about Stainless Steel???
Stainless steel is an excellent alternative to plastic as it is incredibly strong and durable and does not contain chemical such as BPA that can leach into your water. It is so long lasting that it will probably out live you!!!. It is very easy to clean and is incredibly hygienic due to its non porous surface. Due to the combination of properties that make up stainless steel it has excellent resistance to rust or staining. This is why it is widely used in food preparation and storage and why we use it to make our bottles.
Is it better than Aluminum???
It has been found that food and liquid that have been stored or cooked in aluminum can react with the aluminum and leach the metal into the liquid or food. To combat this in drink bottles many manufacturers lined the bottles with an epoxy resin lining. In a number of these bottles this lining has been found to contain BPA therefore many of these aluminum bottles are not BPA free.
How am I helping the environment ?
By having a water bottle that you can reuse and refill you will be reducing the amount of plastic you are constantly buying particularly if you are a regular purchaser of bottled water. If people refilled their bottle instead of buying a new bottle of water they would help to reduce the huge amount of greenhouse gases created in making and transporting them. You'll also be saving quite a bit of money......
In 2008 Clean up Australia stated that Australians used 118000 tonnes of plastic drink bottles and only 35% of these were recycled. That meant that 76700 tonnes went to either landfill or as rubbish in our environment. It is thought that this number will rise each year.
Let's help our environment and encourage Refilling Not Landfilling
